Tim Hughes has been named in the 2014 Power Part Time List: a roll call of 50 powerful UK executives – who all happen to work part time or flexibly.
The 2014 Power Part Time List has been put together by Timewise a leading social business that is building a visible market for good quality flexible jobs in the UK, following a nationwide search.
Co-founder Karen Mattison MBE built the list to champion modern day patterns of work, trailblazing individuals who are forging the way for others and their employers. Karen publishes a list annually prove ‘what’s possible’ when you work part time or flexibly – and that our concept of what a part time job is, or can be, is changing.
The initiative has the backing of EY, Regus and 7 executive search firms.
Just one of 7 men on the list, Tim works 3 days a week, choosing to do so to be able to spend more time with his young family, whilst also volunteering on the Thames Lifeboats and having time to pursue other business interests.
ionStar is all about flexible working, operating a network of experienced compliance professionals who are largely unavailable to clients through traditional employment routes. This is because they desire flexibility that leading City firms cannot offer. Consultants operate remotely and on a project-by-project basis with all work quality controlled by ionStar before delivery to clients.
Timewise conducted both the nationwide call to action for nominations in June, calling upon the public to nominate inspirational individuals they knew, who work part time / flexibly at senior levels. Founder Karen Mattison led the judging panel which included:
- Steve Varley, managing partner for the UK and Ireland of EY
- Karen Blackett OBE, the CEO of MediaCom
- Andy Saunders, Deputy Editor of Management Today magazine
- Katie Bickerstaffe, CEO of Dixon’s Retail plc in the UK and Ireland
- Lynn Rattigan, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of EY
After hearing from hundreds of people, the judges compiled a list of 50 deemed to be the most outstanding. The list is not ranked or numbered in any way.
Tim says: “I am honoured to be included in the 2014 Power Part Time List, recognising people who combine senior roles with other personal and professional interests. It is important to me to show that it is possible to make work and life fit by being flexible, focused and imaginative in how and where your time is spent.”
Timewise co-founder and judge Karen Mattison MBE, who led the initiative from the start says:“Tim and the other 49 individuals represent how work in the UK is changing. In sharing their stories they help to change the conversation, from what is ‘not possible’ when you work flexibly – to what is. The Power Part Time Listers are paving the way for future generations. We hope that they inspire others to open up about their patterns of work.”
